📖 Today’s Scripture
Isaiah 55–57 & 1 Peter 2:24
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord.— Isaiah 55:8
Sometimes the hardest part isn't what we're walking through.
It's not knowing what comes next.
I have a friend who is grieving the loss of her husband. She's learning how to live a life she never expected to live—making decisions alone, carrying responsibilities they once shared, and trying to imagine a future that looks completely different from the one she planned.
And then there's my son.
His struggle is obviously very different, but he's standing at his own crossroads. Football? Basketball? Which direction should he pursue? What if he chooses wrong? What if the opportunity he's hoping for doesn't happen?
And as his mom, I want answers for him.
Actually, if God wanted to hand me a detailed five-year plan for everyone I love, color-coded and laminated, I would happily take it. 😂
But that's usually not how He works.
Instead, God says:
“My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.”
That isn't God telling us to stop asking questions.
It's God reminding us:
You can trust Me with what you cannot see.
🌱 God Is Working Where We Can't See
Isaiah 55 compares God's Word to rain falling on the earth. It accomplishes something even before we can see the evidence.
That's such an important reminder when someone we love is hurting or uncertain.
There are seasons when it looks like nothing is happening.
But seeds grow underground.
My friend may not be able to imagine what life will look like months or years from now.
My son doesn't have to know today which sport—or which opportunity—will ultimately become part of his future.
And I don't have to figure either one of those things out for them.
God is already standing in the places we're worried about reaching.
❤️ God Is Close in the Hard Places
Isaiah 57 gives us another beautiful promise:
“I live… with the one who is contrite and lowly in spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly.”
God doesn't disappear when life gets messy.
He moves close.
Close to the grieving widow who wishes she could press pause because doing life without her husband feels impossibly heavy.
Close to the teenager wondering where he fits and what he's supposed to pursue.
And close to the mom who desperately wants everything to work out for the people she loves.
God says:
I am here.
✝️ Jesus Already Carried the Heaviest Part
Then 1 Peter 2:24 points us back to the cross:
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross… by his wounds you have been healed.”
Jesus didn't promise us a life without heartbreak, disappointment, uncertainty, or grief.
He promised us something better:
We would never have to walk through any of it without Him.
The cross reminds us that even when something looks like the end of the story, God may still be writing redemption into it.
So maybe today we don't need to figure out what comes next.
Maybe today we simply need to come.
Come when we're grieving.
Come when we're disappointed.
Come when we're confused about which road to take.
Come when we're the mom trying desperately not to grab the steering wheel from God. 😉
Because Isaiah 55 doesn't say:
“Figure it all out.”
It says:
“Come.”
🙏 Prayer
Father, there are so many things I wish I could see ahead of time. I want to know that the people I love will be okay. I want answers for the places that feel uncertain, and I want healing for the places that hurt.
Help me remember that Your thoughts are higher than mine and Your ways are better than anything I could plan.
Be especially close today to those who are grieving and trying to learn how to live a life they never imagined. And guide those standing at crossroads, wondering which direction their future will take.
Help us trust that even when we can't see what You're doing, Your Word is still working, seeds are still growing, and You are still writing the story.
Teach us to stop demanding the whole map and simply take the next step with You.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
💜 Hope for Today
You don't have to see what comes next to trust the One who is already there.
The future may feel uncertain. The loss may still hurt. The decision may still be unclear.
But God hasn't lost the plot.
Come thirsty. Come hurting. Come uncertain. Just come.
He is still healing. He is still guiding. He is still working beneath the surface. 🌱
