When the Plan Changes, the Cornerstone Doesn't

💜 When You Don’t Know What Comes Next

I like having a plan.

Especially when it comes to my children. If something is hurting them, I want to know what we’re doing about it, what the next step is, and how we’re going to make it better.

Right now, I don’t have that.

We recently had to bring our daughter home from residential treatment much earlier than we expected. It wasn’t because we felt like the work was finished or because everything was suddenly okay. Circumstances changed the plan, and suddenly we found ourselves bringing her home and asking:

What do we do now?

There are appointments to make, options to research, decisions to make, and so many unknowns.

And if I’m not careful, I can spend all my energy desperately trying to create certainty.

Then I read Isaiah 30.

God’s people were scared too. Instead of trusting Him, they ran to Egypt looking for security. They wanted something tangible—something they could do.

And God told them:

“In quietness and trust is your strength.”

Not in having every answer.

Not in controlling the outcome.

Not even in having the perfect plan.

In trusting Him.

✝️ The Foundation Hasn’t Changed

Then Acts 4:11–12 points directly to Jesus:

He is the Cornerstone.

A cornerstone gives a structure its stability and alignment. Everything else is built around it.

That means even when our plans change, our foundation doesn’t.

I still need to make phone calls.

I still need to advocate for my daughter.

I still need to research options, make decisions, love her well, and take the next step.

But I don't have to figure out the entire story today.

God hasn't asked me to.

He's asking me to trust Him with the part I cannot see.

🌿 Hope for Today

Maybe your life doesn't look anything like you thought it would right now either.

Maybe a door closed.

Maybe the plan fell apart.

Maybe you're waiting for an answer.

Maybe you're simply wondering, “God, what are we supposed to do now?”

You don't have to know the whole way forward.

Just take the next faithful step.

And when fear tells you that everything is uncertain, remind yourself:

The plan may have changed.But Jesus hasn't.

He is still good.

He is still present.

He is still working.

And He is still your Cornerstone.

💭 Reflection

Where am I trying to create certainty instead of trusting God?

What would it look like today to stop trying to figure out the entire road ahead and simply ask:

“Jesus, what is my next faithful step?”

🙏 Prayer

Jesus, I don't know what comes next, and sometimes that scares me. Help me stop trying to control what only You can hold. Give me wisdom for the decisions I need to make and peace about the things I cannot control. Teach me to find my strength in quietness and trust. When my plans change, remind me that You never do. Be my Cornerstone and lead me one faithful step at a time.
